Jelly Comb HD USB Computer Webcam 1080P Review

There are lots of webcam designs on the market but for obvious reasons demand is high and availability is low.
Given a choice, I usually only purchase mid to top range brands that I know and trust.
However, I needed a webcam so opted to take a punt on the unknown and budget priced Jelly Comb HD Webcam.

Review
Having now purchased and used the webcam, let’s see how well it performs against the specification.
Plug and play setup
As promised, setting up the Jelly Comb HD Web Camera was straight forward.
Windows found the right drivers immediately after I plugged in the camera.
Positioning options
I was impressed by the amount of flexibility available for positioning the Jelly Comb webcam.
The clip allows it to sit nicely on top of a monitor.
The clip also doubles up as a stand if you would rather have the camera sat on your desktop.
There is also the option to mount the webcam on a tripod.
The camera head can rotate 360 degrees and move up and down a little too.
I measured the UBS cable and it is the 1.7 meters advertised. The cable is built into the camera so replacing it with a longer or shorter one is not an option.
My computer is not near my screens but the camera just reached.
Image quality
The image quality is pretty good for day to day general use, e.g. video calls and meetings.
The viewing angle is wide and takes in a fair proportion of the room.
However, at full screen I don’t feel like I’m viewing HD images or video. It could be better.
The Jelly Comb would not be suitable for content creators, but for it’s price you wouldn’t expect it to be.
Autofocus
The autofocus works well.
The camera only takes a short while to change focus when transitioning from something very near to far away.
Audio quality
The built in microphones do a great job of picking up your voice during a video call.
There is an element of background hissing/noise that wouldn’t bother most general users and certainly doesn’t detract from hearing speech.
If you are looking for prefect audio maybe consider a dedicated microphone.
Privacy features
The Jelly Comb HD Web Camera does come with a privacy shutter, which is a convenient and quick way to get some privacy.
However, sliding the cover over the lens does take a little force and some of your room is still visible afterwards.
There is also a blue light which indicates when the camera is on.
Not sure how much I trust these lights, it’s probably best to unplug the device to ensure complete privacy.
Final thoughts
For the price, the Jelly Comb HD Web Cam is a solid and flexible product that gets the job done. The image and audio quality are perfectly fine for general use. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product to a friend.
